Abuse, neglect, puppy mills, dog fighting … the list is endless. Pet lovers will never understand how humans can be so cruel to creatures who give so much and expect so little. As the housing market plummets and home foreclosures increase almost daily, people are even leaving behind their supposedly beloved pets. They’re abandoning them, dumping them in fields and leaving them to fend for themselves when the only life these poor critters have ever known is to have their families provide love, food and shelter for them. To an animal lover, this is no different than abandoning a small child! What chance do they really have? How can they truly fend for themselves when they have never had to do so?

We know you all have families to care for and bills to pay. If everyone were to drop a single one dollar bill in the bucket for a needy pet rescue organization, these dollars will add up to real help. Think about it … can you forego one item on your grocery list just this one time and instead put the money you’d spend on it into the hands of those who so desperatly need it? Maybe instead of that bag of junk food, you could purchase a bag or can of dog food and donate it? Could you put one dollar away every week and at the end of the month forward it to one of these organizations?

Or maybe you could make it a point to make a phone call and offer an hour of your time, a morning or afternoon to drive on over to one of these caring places and offer to walk a dog, clean some food dishes or an animal’s pen? Maybe you could round up your family for just a few hours and treat it as a family outing. Think of the values you’d be teaching your children and at the same time, you’d be spending quality time with them. Perhaps if enough children become educated, eventually we’ll live in a world that is animal-cruelty free!

Maybe your school or favorite local group would consider taking a field trip to lend a hand, have a bake sale or a car wash and forward the proceeds to your selected group. If you think about it, the possibilities are endless!
